Week 19 - Advanced Portfolio Minor Task - Social Media Page

•

Whilst creating the Instagram account for my artist, I made sure to first research Demi Lovato’s official Instagram page to then ensure that the page I produce mimics the sort of ‘vibe’ she often has on social media because, at the end of the day, the Instagram page I’m creating for my artist is, essentially, pretending to be her, posting in a way that is similar to what she would - without copying her of course!

Demi Lovato’s official Instagram account is:

  • bright and colourful - lots of bright colours, bold fonts and boldness.
  • Creative - uses creative CANVA-type photos and edits to promote her LGBTQ movement.
  • Lots of rainbows - almost like the symbol of her movement.
  • Lots of close-ups - she often also looks quite serious and focused - on a mission to achieve her goals and end the oppression.
  • Some outfit posts - reeeeally doesn’t smile much.
  • Reposts a lot of gay people’s posts and people ‘coming out’ on her story - supportive of those themes.
  • Butterflies as well - she seems to quite like butterflies, and use them frequently throughout her profile.
  • Different/unique angles and edits - blurry effects, over-imposed images, pictures rotated left etc.

Keeping this in mind, this is what I’ll possibly include in the Instagram page I create:

  • Bold and bright colours (more specifically blues, purples and greens too - Lovato seems to fancy the colour green),
  • Bold fonts in black or white - large in size as well.
  • Lots of pictures about the LGBTQ movement and ending oppression - I’ll create these designs on CANVA.
  • Close-ups of her appearing focused and/or serious/melancholic.
  • Lots of self-love posts promoting confidence and being your true self.
  • Reposts of other accounts she supports on stories.
  • A highlight for the album, a highlight for her podcast and a highlight for ending the oppression.

Below is the link to the Instagram page I created for my artist:

And here are screenshots of the account as well:

Evident in the social media page I created are the similar sort of bold and bright colours Lovato seems to enjoy. Colours such as bright purple, rainbow, and dark blue. I made sure to also create various designs (such as the two pictured below) on CANVA to bring the page to life and make it more realistic and believable.

These posts emphasise the fact that Lovato is non-binary, and also supports the LGBTQ movement, giving followers more of a background on her and her beliefs.

I also ensured to include behind-the-scenes (BTS) shots (such as the one pictured below) and shots from “photoshoots” as these types of posts really highlight how it’s an artist’s personal social media page so, of course, they’re going to use it to engage with their audiences, appear relatable (achieved by the BTS footage) and, essentially, advertise their brand.

This post with the caption “We’re not hiding anymore” signifies the fact that no longer are those who are non-binary or gay or anything of the sort going to ‘hide’, but instead they’re rising up with unity and confidence - again just a post to emphasise her support behind that movement. The pictures transitioning from black and white to colour relate back to the fact that the ‘🏳️‍🌈’ flag is a symbol of the LGBTQ movement, and so having the fourth picture in colour is basically pointing back to that.

I also included just some everyday photos, such as the one of the artist on the large swan, because it again points back to her being a human being who also enjoys normal, relaxed days as well. Additionally, the complete uniqueness of being on a massive swan links back to the fact that Lovato is all about breaking the stigma, about not conforming, about breaking the norm and being different - hence the caption.

Lovato loves these emojies ‘πŸ’˜πŸ’œπŸ€™πŸΌ✌πŸΌπŸ–€πŸ’–πŸ€πŸŒˆ’ and so I used these throughout my Instagram page as well.

She also loves using hashtags, so I decided to use the hashtags #BreaktheBinary, #DancingwiththeDevil and #DWTD to create that believable feel.

Social media is all about being a platform which provides artists with a medium to both engage with their fans, as well as express themselves, hence my decision to have a combination of more advertising-focused posts, as well as more relaxed, fun posts as well. This makes it more like a professional, legitimate account - one an artist would actually have.

Lovato is welcoming, accepting of others and believes in self-love, hence the bio I decided on for my artist’s social media page (pictured above).
